It wil soon be upon U.S….

The One True Phone
“Next came the fan boys and the overweight and the incorrect wearers of patterned shirts and the others who were decried as social pariahs. To them, the faithful, the Phone was celebrated and hailed as no other Phone before it, nor any other kind of consumer electronic gear for that matter, except maybe the Tivo. And the Phone made them cool for a while, which was a miracle. “Yea, the Phone has brought peace and happiness to our lives!” wrote Gizmodo, and a record of pageviews was logged.”

Don’t you just love it when…

February 22, 2007

…things just work!
I popped a Telstra EVDO wireless card into my Mac today and it identified it, configured it and was ready to use. No reboots, simple, easy and fast. Now I have net wherever I roam.

This one is a loaner, gotta get me one of those NextG ones or the 3 NetConnect Card…

There is a ‘good customer experience’ gap in the mobile phone market waiting to be filled

December 9, 2006

Arik at Business Week sums up a good article on the rumored Apple iPhone with:
“Basically I’m looking for Apple to fulfill all those many unfulfilled promises that the wireless phone manufacturers like Motorola (MOT) and Nokia (NOK), Samsung and Sony Ericsson (SNE) (ERICY) have failed to deliver. Because if not Apple, then who?”

Some people just don’t get it

November 25, 2006

Ahhh dear, some people just don’t get it…

Palm’s CEO response to Apple’s possible iPhone:
“We’ve learned and struggled for a few years here figuring out how to make a decent phone,” he said. “PC guys are not going to just figure this out. They’re not going to just walk in.”

You silly, silly man…. Though I think this says more about why Palm don’t get it, rather than why Apple does.

Related News: Apple stock is currently trading at a high of US$91.63 (up almost $7 in a week), I’m hoping it’ll hit $98.50 🙂

[Update: Daring Fireball wrote a brilliant commentary on the above]

(Cross Post) New article: The Mobile Geeks Get Together

October 18, 2006

Also posted on my work blog:
The AIMIA Mobile Content Industry Development Group just released their latest newsletter. Included as a feature is an article I wrote titled ‘The Mobile Geeks Get Together’ (MS Word, 48kb). It gives a high level overview of my recent trip to Helsinki, New York & California and the Mobile HCI and UbiComp conferences. It’s not quite as polished as it should be, but hopefully gets the main points across.

Helsinki – Day 3

September 14, 2006

This was the first day of the Mobile HCI 2006 conference and was good fun. More about the conference over on the work blog here:
Mobile HCI 2006 Kick-off
Best Mobile Presentations from Day 1

There was a cocktail event in at the Tapiola Cultural Centre which was good fun. Interestingly, there was no beer served only wine. It was great to chat with everyone. There are two Australians here Kirsten from UTS and Ming who works for Nokia here in Finland. Afterwards we were taken into town and the locals took us to the Torni bar in the Sokos hotel. There was a great view of the city and we got into the local pear cider, very nice!

One of the nicest mock-ups of the iPhone

August 3, 2006

Check out this mock-up of rumoured Apple iPhone
I don’t reckon it will be announced at WWDC, it’s too consumer oriented. It will have it’s own special event.
If anyone can do a phone right, it’s Apple. It’s amazing to think that phone UIs have been so bad for so long.
